Compliance Made Easy: Key Logistics Policies in Indonesia

Promoting an Effective and Efficient Logistics Process

The logistics sector underpins people’s productive activities. It’s not an exaggeration to say that it is the heart of the national economy.

The reason lies in smooth distribution—the backbone of logistics—which fuels production and consumption at home and abroad.

Efficient and effective logistics is key to the sector’s contribution to economic growth. The more efficient the logistics is, the greater its impact on accelerating the economy. On the other hand, poorly managed logistics can stall progress.

7 Government Policies to Support the Logistics Industry

Given the urgency of this sector, the government has enacted several regulations to improve the quality of logistics services in Indonesia. Below are seven of them:

Regulation of the Ministry of Trade57/M-DAG/PER/12/2017
Covers the guidelines for implementing logistics businesses, including customs services, goods transportation, and warehouse management.

Regulation of the Ministry of TransportationPM 63 of 2017
Regulates the procedures for customs services at airports, seaports, and other designated locations.

Regulation of the Ministry of TransportationPM 83 of 2018
Covers the procedures for organizing goods transportation by land, including registration, licensing, and vehicle maintenance.

Regulation of the Ministry of TransportationPM 104 of 2018
Specifies the rules for transporting goods by sea, including the provisions related to permits, registration, and maintenance of ships.

Regulation of the Ministry of Transportation PM 122 of 2018
Regulates the mechanism for shipping goods by air, including the licensing and maintenance of cargo aircraft.

Regulation of the Ministry of Transportation PM 127 of 2018
Covers the arrangement of freight transport by trains, including the administrative and technical implementation processes.

Regulation of the Ministry of Transportation PM 19 of 2020
Regulates the distribution of goods through pipelines, along with the licensing and management.

All these regulations are aimed at creating a system of national logistics that is more standardized, safe, and efficient, while showcasing the capability to compete globally.
