An Outlook for the Logistics Business in the Digital Era
Digital technology has transformed numerous aspects of daily life worldwide, including in Indonesia. The internet has become an essential part of society and the economy, reshaping nearly every transaction and interaction.
As Indonesians become increasingly mobile, the demand for convenient, efficient, fast, and secure services continues to grow. In response, the economy is shifting toward virtual transactions, primarily through e-commerce platforms.
E-commerce has rapidly emerged as the go-to solution for both consumer-to-business and business-to-business (B2B) transactions.
This business model enables the seamless buying and selling of goods and services online.
The pandemic further accelerated the popularity of e-commerce as social distancing measures restricted physical interactions.
A study by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company reported that Indonesia’s e-commerce sector generated up to US$59 billion in 2022, accounting for 76.62% of the country’s total digital economy, valued at US$77 billion.
“In 2022, Indonesia saw a 22% increase in e-commerce, rising from US$48 billion the previous year. This marks a 136% surge compared to US$25 billion in 2019, before the pandemic,” the report states.
The study also projected Indonesia’s digital economy to reach US$95 billion by 2025, with e-commerce as its primary driver.
Beyond e-commerce, this rapid expansion is fueled by Indonesia’s growing internet user base, which has reached 82 million people—equivalent to 30% of the population.
The Transformation of Logistics in the Digital Era
With the exponential growth of e-commerce, logistics—one of the main pillars of the digital economy—must continuously adapt.
To keep up with evolving demands, logistics service providers must develop seamless service platforms while ensuring the reliability of their fleets.
