All You Need to Know About Patimban Port
National Strategic Logistics Project
To support the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045 and improve national logistics competitiveness, the government continues to accelerate the construction of Patimban Port in Subang, West Java, which is targeted to be completed in the Q4 this year.
This port is predicted to be one of the largest ports in Indonesia, which also functions as an international strategic logistics center.
About Patimban Port
Location: Subang, West Java
Area: 654 hectares
Total investment: Rp43.2 trillion
Container capacity (when completed in 2027): 7.5 million TEUs
Vehicle capacity: 600,000 CBU units
Not A Replacement for Tanjung Priok Port
Many assume that Patimban Port was built to replace or compete with Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta.
Both ports are designed to collaborate as twin hub ports, allowing the logistics flows to and from the West Java region—accounting for 60% of exports from Tanjung Priok—to be more fluid, efficient, and integrated.
The Port has Already Operated
The plan targets port construction to be completed in 2027, but the government is accelerating the construction and aiming for completion by the end of 2025.
Even so, Patimban Port has been operating since the construction of phase 1. Several major manufacturers, including Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, and Toyota, have utilized this port for vehicle import and export activities.
Patimban Port is currently divided into two terminal areas, each for containers and vehicles with the following capacities:
Container terminal: 250,000 TEUs
Vehicle terminal: 218,000 CBU units
Advantages of Patimban Port
Patimban Port is designed as a modern port that supports an integrated supply chain, with a number of advantages, such as:
1. Access for Large Vessels
The port’s 10-meter channel depth allows ships weighing up to 35,000 DWT to dock, creating great opportunities for direct exports abroad.
2. Integration with Industrial Sector
This port is surrounded by large industrial hinterlands in West Java, such as Karawang and Bekasi. It’s also supported by toll road access and plans for a direct railroad line to the port.
3. Solution to Port Overcrowding in Jakarta
Patimban Port also has the potential to unravel the density of logistics truck flows to and from Tanjung Priok, speeding up the delivery time for the distribution of goods.
Facilities and Service Routes
Patimban Port is equipped with various facilities to support smooth logistics activities, including:
Container and vehicle dock areas
Stacking yard
Administration building and 60 hectares reclamation
In addition, a back-up area of 350 hectares will also be developed for:
Logistics industry
Warehousing
Government area
Other supporting services
Sea Highway & International Routes:
Patimban Port currently serves sea tolls to Kijang (Riau) and Lhokseumawe (Aceh), as well as international export routes to Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.
One of the activities at Patimban Port involves the shipment of up to 700 units of cars using the RoRo Serasi V vessel by SELOG to Belawan Port in Medan.
