Logistics Industry Optimism for 2026

2026 Logistics Outlook: Trends, Challenges, and Key Strategies

The logistics industry is projected to undergo major changes in 2026. Rising demand, accelerated digitalization, regulatory changes, and the need for operational efficiency are the key drivers.

Understanding these dynamics is also crucial for business players, operational teams, and financial management to develop competitive and sustainable strategies.

The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) expressed optimism that Indonesia’s logistics sector will continue to grow positively in 2026.

This confidence is based on Indonesia’s resilience in the logistics sector amid various global challenges throughout 2025.

Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, Senior Vice President of FIATA and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarder Association (ALFI), as quoted from Neraca, stated that national logistics continued to record solid growth despite external pressures such as geopolitical conflicts and global trade wars.

FIATA also observed that Indonesia’s logistics sector contributed to maintaining national economic growth at around 5% throughout 2025.

This further emphasizes the logistics industry’s strong resilience in the face of global economic uncertainty.

Facts on the Growth of Indonesia’s Logistics Sector

Based on official data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the logistics subsector showed positive performance during the last three quarters of 2025.

The warehousing industry recorded growth of around 9.01%, while the transportation sector grew by 8.52% to 8.62%.

Overall, the logistics sector contributed around 6.08% to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

These numbers show that logistics is not merely a supporting sector but a key factor driving the national economy.

However, Indonesia’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) remains in the medium category, indicating significant opportunities for improving efficiency and competitiveness.

Domestic Factors Driving Logistics Growth in 2026

FIATA forecasted that in 2026, Indonesia’s logistics growth will be driven more by domestic factors. Some of the key drivers include:

  • Strengthening domestic consumption and purchasing power directly increases the demand for goods distribution.

  • State Budget (APBN) growth target of 5.4%, reflecting government optimism about economic recovery and stability.

  • Implementation of strategic government programs, such as the Merah-Putih Cooperatives and the Nutritious Free Meal Program (MBG), creates multiplier effects on economic and logistics activities.

These programs not only boost public consumption but also drive demand for transportation, distribution, and warehousing services as integral parts of the national supply chain.

Indicators of Strengthening Economic Activity

Several key economic indicators also reinforce optimism for the logistics sector. FIATA noted at least two indicators:

  • The manufacturing sector remains at an expansionary level, with the index rising to 53.3 in November 2025, signaling increased industrial production.

  • The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) grew significantly in the second half of 2025, reflecting public confidence in improving economic conditions.

Both indicators show that domestic consumption and investment are moving positively and are projected to continue into 2026.

This clearly opens opportunities for stable growth in the logistics sector without extreme volume spikes.

Challenges to Anticipate for Logistics Players

Despite positive prospects, FIATA emphasizes that industry players must remain cautious of several key challenges, such as:

  • Global geopolitical uncertainty, which could disrupt international supply chains.

  • Technological disruption, especially the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). FIATA encourages national logistics companies to adapt quickly to avoid falling behind global competitors.

  • Fluctuations in sea freight rates due to changes in shipping routes and geopolitical situations affecting schedule reliability.

Implementation of global environmental regulations, such as EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, and CBAM, which are expected to increase export-import logistics costs, especially for commodities with high emission footprints.

Nevertheless, FIATA views Indonesia’s logistics industry prospects in 2026 as strong and promising overall.

Domestic market resilience, rising local demand, and government strategic program support represent the main foundation for this sector’s growth.

By understanding demand trends, carbon regulations, technological developments, and changes in transport modes, logistics companies can develop more efficient, adaptive strategies to navigate market dynamics.
